Germany To Declare South Africa Virus Variant Area As Cases Hit New Record

Berlin: Germany on Friday reported a new record of more than 76,000 Covid-19 infections in a day because the air forces were preparing for the first time in a pandemic to fly severe patients to other homes that struggled.
The day before, Germany had crossed the threshold of 100,000 deaths related to Covid-19 in the middle of a warning from the hospital, especially in the south and east of the country that their intensive care unit filled capacity.

Then on Friday, the German Air Force will transport Covid-19 patients who are very painful from the southern city of Memmingten to Muenster near Osnabrueck in the north to alleviate the clinic in the south, a security source said told Reuters.

This is the first time the Air Force must use what is called “Flying Intensive Care Unit”, the aircraft is equipped with up to six ICU beds, to transfer Covid-19 patients in Germany.

Berlin will also declare the South African virus variant area on Friday after the new Covid-19 variant detection there, said the Ministry of Health’s source.

The decision, which will take effect from Friday night, will mean the airline will be allowed to fly only Germany to Germany from South Africa, according to sources. Returns Germany, even those who are vaccinated, then have to spend 14 days in quarantine.

“This newly discovered variant is worried about us. That is why we act pro-active and early here,” said Health Minister Jens Spahn. “The last thing we need now is a new variant introduced which causes more problems.”

Variant – called B.1.1.529 – has a “very unusual constellation” mutation, which concerns because they can help avoid the immune response of the body and make it more contagious, said South African scientists.
