Losing Tech War To China? After Hypersonic Missiles, Ex-Google CEO Says US Far Behind In Another Critical Technology

The United States left behind in China in the research and development of hypersonic weapons technology. The military officers and the top American defense industry have raised alarms about the rapid progress of China in the hypersonic domain.

In July last year, China conducted a hypersonic weapons test, pushing missiles throughout the world at the speed of Mach 5 or five times the speed of sound. It triggered a broad panic among the US military top brass, which described the situation as “very close” with “sputnik moments”.

Then, Chief Executive Raytheon claimed that Washington had been behind Beijing in the development of hypersonic weapons. However, it seems that this is not the only domain where China is in front of the US.

Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO, has punished the US government because the delayed 5G launch, claimed that the “Dithing” government had left America “behind” China.

Schmidt and Graham Allison, a Harvard professor, was stated in the OP-ED for the Wall Street Journal that America was “far behind in almost every 5G dimension while other countries – including China – racing.”

Schmidt and Allison quoted statistics from PCMag to suggest that most 5G services in the US substantially slower than in China. They also claimed that, even though US sanctions had taken place against Huawei, Chinese companies remained the top 5G provider globally. They also refer to the “hysterical” federal flight administration of the possibility of 5G operations in the C-band spectrum that interfere with aircraft radio altimeter.

They claim that the Chinese government has invested a total of $ 50 billion in the 5G network in this country, but the US only allocates $ 1.5 billion so far. “The performance of the sad U.S in a 5G race is a sign of a greater American failure to attend China on a very strategic technology. China is also in front of America in the manufacture of high technology, green energy and many artificial intelligence applications,” he added.

“On the current trajectory, in 2030 it is likely to lead the US in the number of semiconductor chips produced and in biotechnology applications to defeat diseases such as cancer.”

Schmidt has criticized the rate of actions of the US government which is slow in the front of the technology that he considered important for the future. Last year, the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, which Schmidt Heads, released a report that claimed that China could follow the United States as “AI Admouspower” world, with military consequences.

China’s Rapid Strides

Last month, Chinese researchers claimed to have reached the speed of world record wireless transmission of 206.25 gigabit per second. This can mean that 6G technology will be up to 100 times faster than 5G.

China also shows that hypersonic weapons can communicate and detect targets using 6G technology, eliminating some problems about blackouts that occur at a speed of five times the speed of sound or more, according to Soth China Morning Post.

Such claims came when the US had difficulty testing 5G due to interference with the main instrument in the aircraft because both used the same frequency. The United States also does not have hypersonic weapons that can be operated, after failing three consecutive tests in the past, as reported earlier by the Eurasian time.

The US also increases its efforts to launch 5G services throughout the country. Telecommunications companies including Verizon and T-Mobile now have a substantial and fast 5G midfield network, and AT & T has promised to start the buildup itself.
