Overseas Contributions (Regulations) of Law (FCRA) Registration of nearly 6,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has stopped January 1 as the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) refuses to update their application or they do not apply for one.

FCRA registration is a requise required to receive foreign funds. As of December 31, the Ministry extended validity until March 31, 2022, provided that update requests have not been rejected or NGOs are implemented within six months from their expiration date.

On Saturday, a list of updated NGOs that regulate “considered to stop” containing the name of 5,933 NGOs. Until Friday, the total number of active FCRA associations in accordance with the MHA website was 22,762, which now stands at 16,829, as 5,933 NGOs stop operating.

According to Dhaval Udani, founder of Danamojo, an online payment platform for NGOs, the number of NGOs whose FCRA registration “stopped” to operate overnight doubled.

“It seems like it doesn’t seem to be a previously informed NGO case and the site is updated now. 30% NGOs are removed in one shot. There is no reason given,” said Mr. Udani.
